Summary

Black Country Healthwatch were commissioned by the Wolverhampton Clinical Commissioning Group to collect feedback from patients about their knowledge and experience of general practice nurses to inform the decision making of several projects.

Key findings

  • The was a mix of patient knowledge about the role of general practice nurses.
  • General practices should make patients aware of the roles of their nurses.
  • Online booking systems should signpost people to see a nurse rather than a GP where appropriate.

This research identified a range of knowledge from patients. Patients appear to be motivated to learn about the different roles of general practice nurses, educating patients on different staff roles could reduce pressure on GPs.
