Access to eyecare - what are people saying?
The views of people from black, Asian and minority ethnic groups and people with learning disabilities or dementia about accessing eyecare.

Summary
We reached out to people from ethnic minorities as well as those with learning disabilities and dementia to explore their experiences of accessing eyecare.
Key outcomes
- There is a lack of knowledge about how eye problems can affect people with some learning disabilities.
- Patients told us of good experiences with waiting rooms, describing "friendly" staff.
- There was inconsistency in the treatment received. Some people felt supported during their appointments whereas others felt rushed and pressured to spend money.
“After my appointment I received an e-mail with information about my test, it explained my results in lots of detail and the information was easy to understand. I feel excited when I go to the opticians."
