Listening to migrant communities

From language barriers and limited access to healthcare, to housing issues and financial constraints, we want to advocate for improved support and services to address these challenges and ensure the well-being of migrant communities.

Summary

Through our engagement with the Welcome Group, a faith-based charity supporting refugees and asylum seekers, Healthwatch Dudley identified various health and care barriers faced by these communities.

Key findings

  • Language barriers pose significant challenges for migrants in accessing healthcare services, leading to missed appointments and difficulties in understanding medication instructions.
  • Housing issues, including poor living conditions are a major concern for migrant communities.
  • Financial constraints and limited access to affordable activities, such as school trips and gym memberships, make it challenging for migrants to engage in healthy and recreational activities.

From struggles with language barriers and access to healthcare, to housing issues, financial constraints, and mental health challenges, our report sheds light on the unique challenges faced by migrants. By sharing these stories and experiences, Healthwatch Dudley aim to advocate for improved support and services to ensure that migrant communities can lead healthy and fulfilling lives in Dudley borough.
