National recognition

The National Healthwatch Impact Award recognises outstanding examples of people sharing their experiences to improve care for their community. We are pleased to announce we have been shortlisted for our work to improve access to GP services.

Voices of local people lead to change in GP services

After over 1000 local people shared their experiences of GP services in Dudley, we worked with local partners to create a Patient Charter, this charter will encourage GP practices to meet the accessibility and communication needs of local people. Whether people struggle to speak English, read and write or are unable to use the internet, this charter supports patients' rights to care.

All GP practices across the Dudley borough have now signed up to the Patient Charter, it is displayed on GP websites for patients to discover their rights.

Share for Better Care

The nominees were announced as part of 'Share for Better Care Week', a campaign to encourage people to share their experiences of NHS and adult social care services across England to help improve care for everyone. We hope that this nomination highlights the real impact local people can have when they share their experiences of care services.

"Being shortlisted for this award is a proud moment for us, but the real recognition goes to everyone in the community who shares their experiences. This is an achievement for everyone across Dudley."

Jason Griffiths, Chief Officer of Healthwatch Dudley

Eighteen projects from across England are in the running for the National Healthwatch Impact Award. The annual award highlights outstanding examples of where the views and experiences of local people have been used by their local Healthwatch to make care better.

The finalist will be announced at a national event on 13 March 2025.

"Getting shortlisted for this award is a huge achievement. It highlights how the views, experiences and ideas of local people are key to finding new ways to improve health and care services."

Louise Ansari, Chief Executive of Healthwatch England
