Enter & View Select Lifestyles December 2024

We have been working with the Care Quality Partnership to identify supported living and care facilities to visit throughout the year, with a view to listening to the experiences of residents and relatives.

Summary

We visited the Select Lifestyles supported living facility on Himley Road in December 2024. We spoke to residents and their relatives to discover people's experiences of the facility. We were pleased to hear that residents were supported to take part in trips and activities outside of the home. People provided mixed feedback regarding life at Select Lifestyles.

Key findings

Residents and their loved ones said:

  • Bedrooms are kept clean and tidy.
  • Residents are supported to take part in activities outside of the home.
  • Residents are offered choices with food and drink.

“Carers are underrated and don't get enough credit for the hard job that they do, in sometimes difficult situations. Overall, I am happy where they are and feel they do as much as they can to make sure they are safe and happy”

Helping people have their say

We provided information on the Enter & View before conducting the visit, to allow residents and their relavitves to choose if they wanted to be present to share their views.

A member of staff from Dudley Voices for Choice visited Select Lifestyles three times before the Enter & View visit to meet the residents, to help them feel more comfortable and build relationships. This staff member was present throughout the Enter & View visit to support residents in having their say. Dudley Voices for Choice is a user-led charitable organisation that supports people with learning disabilities and autism to speak up for themselves.

Several weeks before the visit, we provided details of a survey that friends and family could complete, either online or via paper copies.
